Generally speaking, a DJ will be a lot less expensive than a live band.

What to look for

A few of the key things that I look for:

• Great friendly personality
• Funny but professional
• Engages with people

The person you select will be the person to keep things on schedule, announce each event that is happening, keep the music going (and good music at that), also...entertain people.

Wedding DJs

The first person that comes to my mind right away...

DJ Dave Winsor. I listen to him every morning on the radio on 99.9 the Wolf. He is really funny!

I wanted him to DJ my wedding, but he was already booked!

Another option is DJ Roger Grenier. He has been around for long time and is well known by many here in Southern Maine!

A risky money saving tip

Have a friend or relative fill in as the DJ!

We are expecting about 60 guests and our reception hall space is on the smaller side...so we thought why not ask a friend or relative to fill in. We went to a wedding where this was done and it worked out fine.

My future brother-in-law is really funny and comfortable speaking in front of a small crowd...so we asked him if he would fill in for us and he said yes!

We will be hooking up our laptop to the sound system and will have our play list all organized. We are having a relative just help keep the music going and to do the announcements for us.

Tips:

• Shop around to find the right price that works for you.
• DJs are not cheap. One of the quotes I received was $800.00.
• Be ready to share ideas for music that you would like played.

Tidbit: Choose music which speaks to that which you cannot find words to express.
